On a Mission

Jesus spoke in Luke chapter 4:

18  “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to
the poor;
He has sent Me
to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to
the blind,
To
set at liberty those who are oppressed;

19  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

Each of us has a calling just as Jesus had a calling.  This calling was established before we were formed in the womb and it was established by HIS Divine Intent of Love.  We should not look at others’ callings and desire theirs but instead we should seek to fully understand what our particular calling is in its fullness.  As we pursue our own calling we will be empowered by HIS anointing just as Jesus was.

Zacharias and Elizabeth are great examples, they were both “advanced” in age, beyond the normal childbearing years.  To top it off, Elizabeth was barren:

Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

Even though Zacharias was old, it did not keep him from continuing to pray for FATHER’S WILL to be done in his life as well as the life of his wife Elizabeth.  We must not let these subtle Truths be overlooked for they provide encouragement in our own circumstances.  We must be of good courage and know that FATHER will manifest our calling at the appropriate time no matter what situation we currently face.

13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.

17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Notice how FATHER takes what appears to be an impossible situation and brings forth HIS Glory.  They are going to have a son and he will even be filled with the Holy Spirit while he is still in the womb.

We must not consider our individual circumstances, station in life, or age when it comes to our calling.  Our situation can change in a moment.  The next phone call you receive might alter your direction and place you in the middle of your calling along with the empowerment from Above.  In our humanity we often question whether FATHER could do something with us.  Zacharias had the same question many of us would at a later stage of life:

18 And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”

19 And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.”

Gabriel was sent, John the Baptist was sent, Jesus was sent, and you too are sent.  The only question might be “What is my mission or calling?”  Zacharias prayed and FATHER heard him and sent Gabriel to give him details of his calling.  FATHER will communicate your calling in some form or fashion so you must be sensitive and focus on hearing HIS Voice.  Your prayer will be heard for it is HIS good pleasure to equip, prepare, train, and then send you on your mission whether you are 30 years old or 84 years old.  The Ancient of Days is not moved by your age or situation.
