Unity In Purpose

Paul wrote by THE SPIRIT in Ephesians chapter 4:

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ

I believe until we all come into unity in purpose our impact on the world will be hindered.  Paul equates the perfect man to the state of being in the “unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God” and the area we are lacking in is the unity of the faith.  You would think that those who Love FATHER would focus on being in unity but instead the focus seems to be on differences in doctrine.  That focus results from man’s ego wanting to judge and identify error in others.  That predisposition needs to end.

Judging others is simply a sign of spiritual immaturity for FATHER is the only ONE qualified to do the judging.  How can you claim to know what is in a man’s heart causing him to act in such a manner?  What does it matter if you disagree with someone about some secondary doctrine if both of you acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?  We need to focus on what we have in common, not what causes division.  Until we overcome these divisions, our effectiveness will suffer.  Paul continues:

14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Love overcomes division.  I find that many people want someone else to take the initiative to promote unity rather than themselves.  They are simply being lazy or allowing their ego to guide their steps.  Jesus didn’t come in the flesh to sit in the Temple and have everyone come to Him.  He went out among the people and shared the Gospel.  Those who claim to be overcomers need to hop off the sofa and actively promote unity among the brethren.

Those who only focus on Scripture learn to do things right whereas those who also pursue a close relationship with FATHER do the right things.  Each of us need to assess where we are at in this respect.  Paul gives us the key to becoming the perfect man and it requires unity in purpose.  We must ask the question “Am I promoting unity?”   If you aren’t then repent.  We can’t change the past but we can start promoting unity today which will have a direct effect on the perfecting of the saints.
