Set Your Mind

Paul wrote by THE SPIRIT in Colossians chapter 3:

1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Each of us has the choice of where we place our priorities-  on the things above or on the things of the earth.  If we will set our minds on the “above”, this is where Christ resides and His priorities becomes our priorities.  What are His priorities?  You only have to read the Gospels to get a clear picture of His priorities because He carried out FATHER’S Will as He ministered to the masses.  Jesus expressed His will when He commissioned us in Mark 16:

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Shouldn’t we be setting our minds and priorities on this commission?  Doesn’t Paul urge us to focus on the priorities of Christ?  If we died and our life is hidden with Christ, let us then focus on what is important to Christ.  Paul continued in Colossians:

8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

There is no such thing as “the elite” in Christ for we are all special in FATHER’S Eyes.  We must not allow our past failures to dictate our present and future for old things are past away, behold all things are new.  We must put off the old man who is enslaved to the past and we must go forth by renewing our minds to the Gospel.  Our old man and his deeds must be expunged from our consciousness for that old man died at the cross.  Because there is life in the blood, Jesus poured out His Blood and gave it to us that we might have life through salvation.  Holy Communion expresses this Truth.  As we reverently take Holy Communion, we continually renew our mind of the Life in His Blood.

To fulfill the Great Commission, what should we focus on in order to bring forth the Good News of salvation and healing?  Shouldn’t we set our minds to those Scriptures that refer to ministering Love, faith, and hope?  Do the unsaved need to hear a teaching on some advanced Bible topic?  Are we spending more time seeking knowledge than revelation?  Are we being led by experts on Bible knowledge or are we being led by THE SPIRIT?  As we focus on those things which are above where Christ is, FATHER will reveal what is needful for each of us to know in order for us to fulfill our part in the Great Commission.  After all, Jesus did not walk around with a Strong’s Concordance.  He simply spent time with FATHER and received whatever revelation He needed for the situation at hand.  Let FATHER’S priorities become our priorities.  HE will direct us to Scripture appropriate for the situation at hand.
