Hear Him!

It is written by THE SPIRIT in Matthew chapter 17:

1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;

2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

FATHER explicitly tells the disciples to pay attention to the Words of Jesus as they saw and heard the confirmation of His preeminence over the Law and the Prophets.  We would do well to pay close attention to this declaration made by FATHER.  The disciples were ready to exalt Moses and Elijah to the same level as Jesus but FATHER set them straight in this declaration.  Peter expounded on this event when he wrote by THE SPIRIT in his 2nd epistle, chapter 1:

16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;

20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Did FATHER tell the disciples to focus on the Law and Prophets rather than the Words of Jesus?  Absolutely not, for the Law and Prophets pointed to the fulfillment of FATHER’S plan by the Word becoming flesh to explicitly communicate with us and declare FATHER’S character for all to see and hear.

If you only had a few months left to live, what would your focus be, the Law, the Prophets, or the Words of Jesus?  Did the Law bring forth salvation?  Did the prophets heal all who were oppressed by the devil?  Jesus is the Confirmation of what Moses and Elijah longed to see as they were moved by THE SPIRIT.  We have the benefit of being placed on earth at this time in history so let us mature according to FATHER’S Divine purpose and fulfill our individual callings with the firm foundation of the Truths declared by Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I seek not be another Moses or Elijah.  Jesus is my Example of what a mature son or daughter should focus on as we ascend into the fullness of our calling.  No, I am not saying that we disregard what is written in the Old Testament but we should never allow our focus to be moved away from Who FATHER says “Hear Him”!
